GameChanger now offers Full HD (1080p) live streaming as an option for all compatible iOS and Android devices. This will improve the resolution and experience for your video viewers as long as you have the internet bandwidth to support it.
Why am I not seeing the option to stream in 1080p?
If you are using our AutoStream feature, the option to stream in 1080p may not appear if you do not have modern enough device with the necessary processing power. More information can be found in the article below.
There is a small segment of older iPhone and Android devices that do not have the internal processing power to utilize the High Efficiency Video Codec (HEVC) protocol to allow for 1080p streaming. For those devices, the 1080p option will not appear in the streaming setup flow, and there will be a link to this support article. 720p and 480p will be the only resolution options in that situation.
In some cases, the compatibility check may fail for a device that has streamed in 1080p previously. This could be because of poor internet or an issue with the check itself. In that case, the option to stream in 1080p will not be visible. We recommend that you back out of the record video flow and the event and retry it again if you’ve had the 1080p option before.
If you have restarted the streaming setup flow once and the option still is not there for you, you have three possible solutions to stream in 1080p.
- Use another team community member’s device if they have videographer permissions and a newer device that is compatible
- Upgrade your mobile device to a newer model. Please create a ticket with our support team if you want to make sure a device is compatible
- Use an external camera like a Mevo or GoPro to stream in 1080p from the settings in their device setup applications.
Since a 1080p stream requires more computational power than a 720p stream, you might run into performance issues if your device has other activities running in the background, if it gets too hot, or if your internet connection is not strong. If you notice an issue with the stream, we recommend decreasing the resolution to 720p or using an external camera to run a 1080p stream.
